Move to Lord Lambourne
Hello everyone,
I decided that I wanted to start another blog with a new title for a fresh start. I've set up Lord Lambourne and the Leaf, which will be about all sorts of things that make my world go around: fashion, arts, science, and food, of course.
See you around,
Squill

So, after spending several weeks of only sporadically posting, I've realized that I don't really want to continue to blog. I've been spending more time doing things in real life-- face-to-face with the people that I love, and I don't want to tie myself down to something that I can't really put my heart into any longer.
I might lurk the blogworld a bit, still leaving comments here and there, but I think that this is the best thing to do for me. <3

Sick day(s)
I admit it: when I said in my last post that I was a little sick, I had no idea what I was in for. In the past couple of days, this virus that is sweeping through my area has left me with very little energy to do anything but snuggle up under my favorite fleece blanket with a cup of tea and a Doctor Who marathon. Next time one of my best friends is ill... I will take heed!
I do hate being sick (as everyone does, I imagine)-- doing nothing productive and having my parents treat me like Marie Antoinette makes me feel like a spoiled brat. I know I need to rest to let my body heal, but it very frustrating. I've been feeling a bit inadequate lately; I think my virus is to blame.
Luckily I seem to be getting much better. While yesterday my fever reached 103.4, I had very little signs of a fever today at all. Hopefully it will be all gone by Friday, when I hope to get together with another friend of mine. I started a little sketch which I plan on turning into a new header... it's been so long since I've practiced sketching! I think I am going to try to finish a sketch a week this summer.
Tonight's dinner was:

Trader Joe's organic vegetarian chili with two slices of pan-fried polenta, sprinkled with cheddar cheese and broiled-- a nice alternative to corn bread.
What do you do when you are sick and bored out of your mind?
I will leave you with two of my favorite songs:
Ciao! Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Summertime, and the living is easy...
Summer vacation has officially begun. I don't think I have ever appreciated having two and a half months of free time ahead of me as much as I do this year. It is so wonderful to come home and not have to check what assignments I have online, or to sleep in, or be able to go somewhere with my friends whenever I fancy.
Before school ended, my parents and I went to Ohio to celebrate my uncle's birthday. While I am not particularly fond of sitting in a car for 8 hours, I do love to look out the window as we drive along. Most of the path we traveled was surrounded by lush greenery and quaint little farms; we passed quite a few dairy farms with fat and happy-looking cows.
One of my favorite sightings:

A bizarrely but cheerfully painted horse statue outside of a farm stand.
To kick off the summer and celebrate the end of junior year, my friends and I headed downtown on our last day. A new gelato place opened up that I was dying to try, so of course I dragged my friends in...

The gelato was pricey, but worth every penny. My friend and I split a large to save a few bucks and sample more flavors (a large gives you three flavors, a small gives you two). Unfortunately we both forgot that she was sick (she had taken Advil), so I am now suffering from body aches and a fever... but damn, that gelato was good.

We tried crema gelato (like naked ice cream-- it didn't even have vanilla), and mango and white grapefruit sorbettos. They were all perfectly divine. The mango actually tasted like mango! But of course the deliciously tart grapefruit was my favorite.

While we were there, we made a stop at Anthropologie. I love that store so much, if not for its clothes, for its displays. They are always so inspiring. I picked up a bar of organic lemon and blood orange skinnyskinny soap that was on sale.
A couple of days ago, I went through my entire wardrobe and sorted it into piles to keep, consign, and donate. Over half my clothes ended up in the give-away piles! I really need new clothing, but I am determined to stick to my new year's resolution to buy secondhand or handmade only.
In any case, I am very inspired by Sarah Sophie Flicker's style. It is quirky and refreshing; I find it to be kind of magical. Perhaps it's just the lighting in these photographs, but she seems very charming.

Indeed, I have run across quite a few design/fashion websites and blogs lately that I absolutely adore. In particular, The Uniform Project is awe-inspiring-- I am debating doing a similar project starting in August. Other links I love:
♦Cannelle et Vanille's Lemon Verbena and White Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches (she also has many recipes for Macarons!)
♦350.org
♦Dujour's Frida Kahlo editorial
♦DIY Doo.Ri Tights
Happy Sunday (and Father's Day) :)

To make it official....
Hey guys,
I guess I've been posting on and off for a while now so this post might not really be necessary, but I'm going to take a hiatus. I haven't really been feeling like myself lately and I just want to take a week to avoid the computer, the TV, etc and find my inner voice again.
Hopefully when I come back I'll revamp my blog-- I don't want it to be just a food blog anymore. It's just getting distracting and stifling my creative spirit, I suppose.
So there you are! ♥

Quick question
Hello fellow bloggers!
My last exam (I AM ALMOST A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR) is next Monday; after that, I hope to be back to my regularly scheduled blogging! I have been having a lot of ideas for blog posts lately but I haven't had the energy to write them. I baked butternut-squash-and-chocolate-covered-coffee-bean muffins and made stuffed peppers with my friends on Saturday-- if only I had taken pictures!
Anyway, what I wanted to mention was that I have been in kind of a food rut lately. It's partially because my appetite has been really irregular: some days I've been really hungry, while other days I've had to force myself to eat. Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you guys could give me some nutrient-rich, high fruit-and-veg meal ideas! I have mostly been eating peanut butter sandwiches, which, while perfectly nutritious, are getting boring and making me pretty dehydrated.
Thanks ♥

nobody can save you but
yourself.
you will be put again and again
into nearly impossible
situations.
they will attempt again and again
through subterfuge, guise and
force
to make you submit, quit and/or die quietly
inside.
nobody can save you but
yourself
and it will be easy enough to fail
so very easily
but don’t, don’t, don’t.
just watch them.
listen to them.
do you want to be like that?
a faceless, mindless, heartless
being?
do you want to experience
death before death?
nobody can save you but
yourself
and you’re worth saving.
it’s a war not easily won
but if anything is worth winning then
this is it.
think about it.
think about saving your self.
